NeoCon 2015

June 15th-17th 2015, Merchandise Mart, Chicago

We opened Neocon 2015 with a revamped space in the Merchandise Mart that features bright violet hues along with an area solely dedicated to the recently released D.L.Couch Visualizer.

Following the trend of triangulation, gradient displays of coral and berry energize the redesigned space. Inspired by fragmented geometry, the wallcoverings, fabrics, and privacy curtains have this cubic element, adding an edgy vibe to the sleek, white backdrop. Balancing the hard edges and punchy pops of orchid are touches of gold and silver that sparkle and reflect the vibrancy of the design.

A new addition to the showroom is the interactive touchscreen television encouraging users to experience the D.L.Couch Visualizer. Now online at www.dlcouch.com/visualizer, and the first of its kind in the wallcovering and fabric industry, the D.L.Couch Visualizer allows users to select our wallcoverings and fabrics and input them into one of seven different mock room settings. With a simple point and click, you can select from over 3,000 options to create a full-repeat, realistic look at your design.
Located at Suite #11-113 in the Merchandise Mart, the Chicago Showroom offers on site sampling, sales assistance, and access to some of the most acclaimed and recognized products in the industry.

Upholstery Wall

The newly reconstructed upholstery wall displays full repeats and mulitple colorways of our newest and up coming upholstery releases. Cascades of coral and berry create a playful color palette against the white sleek backdrop of showroom.

Fabric Displays

In the middle of the two islands, we added sections that display our array of upholstery fabrics. Here is where you can literally get a hands on feel of what our fabrics have to offer.

Cubby Displays

To balance the hard edges and punchy pops of orchid, we added touches of gold and silver, in our cubby display, that sparkle and reflect the vibrancy of the design.

Candy Bar

Sweet tooth? Our famous candy bar is back with different candies in shades of coral and berry.

Coral is Captivating

Our paneling system has been updated with new product in corals and neutrals. The panels are interchangeable and glide with ease along the tracking system.

Everyone Needs a Little Privacy

Inspired by the break of dawn, Daybreak is a vivacious pattern, filled with energy and warmth. The soft gradient is layered over stacking prisms, consistent with current geometric design trends. The vast spectrum of soothing and vibrant colors balance and complement the sturdy geometric pattern. Daybreak offers a range of color options from a bright, cheerful green and a warm shade reminiscent of a sunset, to pale, peaceful lavender and a neutral latte. Daybreak is sure to bring life, comfort and joy to any space.

Fragments of Coral & Berry

A focal point of the showroom, our custom digital artwork reflects the ongoing triangulation trend happening within design today. Showroom theme colors of coral and berry overlay the triangular pattern creating the illusion of depth and motion across the wall.

Triangular Window Display

This year we added an eye catching window display that plays along with our fragmented theme. The gradient fades from coral to berry, while the irregular shapes catch your eye and draw you in. This display was a great conversational piece and the most photographed element in our showroom.

NGPP Convention 2014

The Digital Imaginarium Goes to School

Digital murals are the fastest growing segment of the wallcovering industry. D.L.Couch's Digital Imaginarium team recently attended the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers (NGPP) Convention in Louisville, KY to learn more about the unique challenges of installing digital murals.

Large-scale digital printing has streamlined the process of making custom patterns and murals for indoor walls, and has expanded the roles of wallcovering in schools, museums, retail displays, corporate buildings, and even residential settings. But special wallcovering demands special considerations, and there are many peculiarities to digital murals that can disrupt the installation process. Communication can often be an issue when the parties involved are unfamiliar with each other’s technical terminology. Exacting measurement of the location must be made to ensure that mural panels can be aligned seamlessly, and that doors, windows, shelves, and vents can be avoided. Walls must be smooth and able to resist double-cutting of seams. Some substrates have properties that cause them to expand or contract during installation, distorting the art. Inks can fade or scratch if handled too roughly. The list goes on, and any one of these issues can slow down slow down an installation, costing time and money.

We want to be the go-to people for all your digital mural needs, from your first idea to the final printing. This means we need to be prepared to circumvent anything that can go wrong. This seminar was an enlightening experience and will help us provide the best experience for designers, installers, and you.

Product Runway 2014

IIDA OH/KY Chapter

This event was hosted by the International Interior Design Association’s Columbus City Center and a portion of the proceeds benefited Dress for Success Columbus; a nonprofit organization dedicated to promote economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools to help women thrive in work and life.

Our own Megan Cuda teamed with Meyers+Associates Architects to design a garment inspired by Iceland and it’s northern lights flair. This event was filled with high fashion, great music, creativity, and good company! A play off of the hit reality television series Project Runway, this event challenged the creative minds of Designers to create fabulous couture garments from the products used in their everyday projects. Carpet, upholstery, wallcovering, acrylic, vinyl flooring signage, tile and plastic laminate were used in the creation of these amazing garments.

2014 Ad Campaign

Art Appreciates Art

For centuries, it may have been the fashionable thing to relegate backgrounds to a supporting role. Not so today. Rich in texture, interest and intrigue, wallcoverings and fabrics from D.L.Couch allow designers to break from convention and invite new experiences of design, using materials that compel creations of art to transcend their boundaries and interact with the surfaces that surround them.

Lanark Wallcovering | Surf

"An exciting and extraordinary statement for the wall. The smooth flow of this undulating texture creates a smooth backdrop in any space."

Source One Upholstery | Marrakesh

"A beautifully intertwined medallion motif of intricate detail reminiscent of the decorative scroll work found on the exteriors of mosques and public buildings in Morocco’s 4th largest city."

As seen in Interior Design Magazine, May 2014

Lanark Wallcovering | Geodesic

"Orderly and perfectly balanced curved lines create geometric patterns on multiple levels of scale and complexity."
Coming July 2014.

Source One Upholstery | Variant

"Variant's interlocking circles create designs within designs."
Coming July 2014.

As seen in Interior Design Magazine, May 2014

Lanark Wallcovering | Tulum

"The unique emboss of 'Tulum' evokes the rugged formation of etched stone. Small, rectangular shapes are randomly stacked in parallel vertical columns to create a warm and organic finish to the walls."

Source One Upholstery | Topology

"A continual bending and stretching graphic, this modern floral provides a playful take on organic, adding visual interest to any piece. Topology plays with positive and negative space to create design illusion."
Coming July 2014.

Avant GARB Fashion Show 2014

Fashion Through The Ages

Avant GARB is Indy's IIDA fashion show event that pairs the city's most talented designers with industry manufactuers to create one-of-a-kind, wearable garments for the runway show of the year. Garments are comprised of carpet, ceramic, tile, wallcovering and fabric (our 2 loves) and much more. D.L.Couch and industry friends teamed up to have 2 dresses walk the runway. This year's theme: Fashion Through The Ages.

Team: D.L.Couch's Misty Chandler and Mitsch Design // Garment Inspiration: 1960's Jackie O.

"As one of the most photographed women of her day, Jackie O. was a style icon and trendsetter followed and beloved by millions. In fact, the 'Jackie' look was copied by more manufacturers and young women than any other first lady in history. Her soft spoken strength and confidence added to her allure as a walking fashion editorial. An exciting mix of yesterday and today, the design creates a high fashion couture gown that Jackie O herself would covet and brings us all back to the glorious days of fashion’s own 'Queen of Camelot' ".

Team: D.L.Couch's Jaimie Jarrell & CSO Architects // Garment Inspiration: 1950's Christian Dior's "New Look" // Garment Construction: Jaimie Jarrell

"This tailored feminine look emulates Christian Dior's high fashion style called the 'New Look', which became popular post WWII and dominated fashion magazines of the day. During the 1950s, women's fashion represented the two very different lives most women would have. Some women played the role of housewife, where they tended to their husbands and children and threw lavish parties while others started to become more serious in the workforce. Our model shows how a woman can do it all. By day, she can work in the office with a slim pencil skirt and fitted top; at night she becomes the entertainer with her full overskirt, heavy accessories and cinched waist. The outfit showcased D.L.Couch's wallcovering and upholstery which lends itself well to the structured looks of the day".

The 1950's Dior Dress won the "A La Mode" award! Congrats Jaimie and CSO Architects!
Several of the winning dresses are on display at the Indiana Design Center in Carmel, IN.

Jackie O Inspired

As one of the most photographed women of her day, Jackie O was a style icon and trendsetter followed and beloved by millions. From her days at the White House and through her time with billionaire husband Aristotle Onassis, she became a symbol of fashion worldwide. In fact, the “Jackie” look was copied by more manufacturers and young women than any other first lady in history. Her soft spoken strength and confidence added to her allure as a walking fashion editorial.

Dress Sketch

Our team took a modern twist on her classic 60’s style. Using such iconic elements as her signature pink color and beloved pearls, modern materials provided by DL Couch created a hi-low structured skirt with an incredible fan texture.

Jackie O Dress

Our model, showcases the archetypical boat neck that takes on her demure sophistication, while the surprising dramatic plunge back shows off her playful sensibilities. The bodice of classic black is the perfect background to show of the structured skirt frame. The short front of the skirt with bow detail is designed to look like a couture fan while the cascade of the long skirt with the field of glittering silver gives a wink to the space race that occurred during her husband’s presidency. The famed pearls that Jackie so adored are lovingly recreated by hand using glass beads and wallcovering. The bright pink color and individually selected wallcovering patterns, playfully contrasting with the classic black and ruching of the top, make this garment a work of art in itself.

Interior Design’s New Product Pick

Versa's Zephyr Impresses

Interior Design Magazine recently named, Zephyr by Versa Wallcovering, as a favorite new product in their weekly designwire newsletter. We can see why this pattern caught their eye and made the list.

Zephyr is a Second Look Recycled Wallcovering containing post-recycled content and is availabe in 18 colorways. Custom colors, widths, weights, and microventing are available.

Zephyr

Like its namesake, the famous California passenger train, Zephyr crisscrosses the wall with linear tracks. Both structured and organic, the fine lines angle, merge and diverge. Adding another dimension is a secondary background in pearl or silver that uncorks a pop of shimmer. The design is so dimensional that it appears embossed!

IIDA New England Fashion Event

Aged to Perfection

Cher, Madonna and Elton John made an appearance at this year's New England IIDA Fashion Event and proved they are, "Still Standing". Ok, maybe the real pop icons were not in attendance. But our versions of the iconic trio worked the runway to the music that has and continues to inspire us all.

The show theme was Aged to Perfection with our concept being I'm Still Standing.

Our own Sumai Koundakjian and industry friends created 3 fashion masterpieces inspired by pop icons Cher, Madonna, and Elton John. Through constant reinvention these icons have built careers that have spanned generations. Using their music and bold style they’ve challenged predefined notions of fashion, gender and sexuality - constantly pushing culture forward; achieving perfection with age.

Go ahead and strike a pose.

2013 Ad Campaign

We all have a story to tell

If our products "came to life" what would they look like? What would their stories be? Our 2013 Ad campaign tells the stories of Hammered Metal, Runway, and Berne. Hammered Metal has "character and resilient strength" while Runway unleashes her " inner vogue essence", and Berne is "welcoming and bold".

We all have a story to tell, what's yours?

Berne

"Like its famous civic name-sake, you'll find this upholstery welcomes all regardless of their origin. But make no mistake: there is a boldness to this hospitality. Berne might not choose favorites, but its hardly neutral."

As seen in Interior Design Magazine, May 2013

Runway

"Sashaying forth to the rhythm of your room. Runway announces its presence with an unmistakable crimson flourish: a double helix that exposes your inmost voguish essence."

As seen in Interior Design Magazine, May 2013

Hammered Metal

"Character is formed by countless collisions that leave defining marks, testament to a resilient strength. A million small impressions that help your design make a large one all its own."
