Vinyl wallcovering and the environment
Sustainability. A key attribute of any "sustainable" product is how long it performs its intended use. Vinyl wallcoverings have a significantly longer life cycle than paint. Because vinyl covered walls require less frequent "touch ups" and "re-dos" than painted walls, fewer products enter the waste stream.
Recycled Vinyls. Vinyls with a minimum of 20% recycled content, with at least 10% being "post consumer", are in stock and readily available from D.L. Couch. These recycled wallcoverings support the LEED criteria.
Reclamation Program. D. L. Couch offers the first vinyl reclamation program that turns stripped-off vinyls back into durable, commercial wallcoverings.
VOC Emissions. Independent tests confirm almost all vinyl wallcoverings emit fewer VOCs-and at lower levels-than most paints. Greenguard certified vinyls are available.
Energy Savings. Third party test results confirm vinyl wallcoverings increase the R-factor (measure of thermal transfer) of a wall, enhancing energy efficiency.
Acoustical Benefit. Vinyl wallcoverings add a measurable, discernable noise reduction to any wall surface. Test results are available.
Indoor Air Quality. Airborne allergens and bacteria can be readily eliminated through routine cleaning of vinyl wallcovering, using the appropriate cleaning agents. Also, mildewcides are available to add protection for healthcare environments.
Low Maintenance. Vinyls clean simply and easily with a mild soap. Even stubborn marks can be removed by recommended cleaning agents. If the wall is cut or punctured, it's easy to patch and repair.
